Seven Danish agricultural associations, including Landøkonomisk Selskab and Østdansk Landboforening, have issued a joint appeal to Minister for Nature and Animal Welfare Christian Rabjerg Madsen. The groups are requesting a pause on new nitrogen regulations, arguing that the current rules rely on model-based retention maps rather than concrete measurements from individual fields. They warn that this lack of “certainty, transparency, and local verification” could lead to inconsistent requirements for neighboring properties and negatively impact farmers' finances, investments, and land values. Specific concerns have intensified regarding the potato, fruit, and vegetable sectors. Producers argue that the legislation, intended to address marine environmental issues and oxygen depletion, uses outdated data that miscategorizes potato crops as high-leaching. Critics, including Kristian Møller Sørensen of Kartoffelmelscentralen, claim that the long growing seasons and high nitrogen uptake of potato crops are being unfairly accounted for. Additionally, Landbrug & Fødevarer (L&F) has supported a pause in the Green Tripartite cooperation near Nissum Fjord, where local farmers have halted work due to what they describe as unreasonable requirements and uncertain state compensation.
