In late August 2026, Juventus attempted to sign 18-year-old French midfielder Darryl Bakola from Sassuolo during the final hours of the summer transfer window. Juventus proposed a loan deal with a conditional option to buy, but Sassuolo resisted the move due to the player’s importance to their starting lineup and his contract, which runs until June 2030. By mid-September 2026, Bakola had established himself as a key player for Sassuolo following his previous winter transfer from Olympique de Marseille for approximately 10 million euros. He recently played a decisive role in a 3-2 victory over Juventus, providing the assist for Kieron Bowie to secure the win. Having recovered from a minor injury, he has secured a starting position in the midfield. Under coach Alberto Aquilani, Bakola has transitioned from a prospect into a consistent Serie A starter, demonstrating tactical maturity alongside players such as Nemanja Matic. While his performances have drawn interest from major clubs and reports suggest Juventus may monitor him as a future option, analysts note that Sassuolo views him as an ‘untouchable asset’ for their current project. By late September 2026, Juventus identified Bakola as a primary target to strengthen their midfield during the upcoming January transfer window. The club values his technical quality, distribution, and physical presence. However, negotiations face significant hurdles; Sassuolo has set an initial valuation of approximately 30 million euros. Juventus ~~also~~ faces competition from AS Roma and several Premier League clubs. Additionally, Atalanta has reportedly begun monitoring the 2007-born midfielder due to his technical qualities and versatility.
