DeAndre Hopkins Patriots coaching stint joins Georgia Tech as WR coach

Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, a 34‑year‑old free agent, began the New England Patriots’ 2026 training camp by shadowing coaches and assisting the offensive staff, as the team evaluated his experience for a possible coaching or scouting role. Head coach Mike Vrabel said Hopkins was “checking things out.” After a few days, the Patriots announced that Hopkins had left the organization. He finished the 2025 season with the Baltimore Ravens, has not announced retirement, and said he still has “a lot of football left.” While he may consider playing for a contender, the Patriots’ depth at receiver makes a playing role unlikely. Shortly after departing New England, Hopkins was announced by Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key as the new assistant wide receivers coach. He will work under offensive coordinator George Godsey, who previously coached him with the Houston Texans. The move is viewed as the likely end of Hopkins’ playing career, though he remains an unrestricted free agent.
