The investigation into the death of actress Hayden Panettiere, who died at age 36 on August 16, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina, ~~has reached a significant development.~~ continues. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office ~~has~~ ruled her death an accident caused by the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. Toxicology reports also detected naloxone and cotinine in her system. While the coroner has issued this ruling, the Greenville Police Department clarified that their investigation remains active and is separate from the closed 911 incident report. U.S. federal authorities, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), continue to probe the origin of the substances found at the scene. Investigators have been analyzing text messages between Panettiere and a suspected drug dealer in Los Angeles to determine if she consumed adulterated pills during her flight to South Carolina. New details have emerged regarding Panettiere’s final days. Records indicate the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department conducted a welfare check at her West Hollywood apartment on August 9, approximately one week before her death, following requests from concerned friends and family who reported she was unresponsive to communications. At that time, her partner, Brian Hickerson, reportedly answered the door and stated she had been feeling unwell. An insider claimed that following a hospitalization a week prior to her passing, Panettiere told a friend that Hickerson had taken her phone. Panettiere, known for her roles in ‘Heroes’, ‘Nashville’, and ‘Scream’, had recently documented her struggles with addiction and postpartum depression in her memoir, ‘This Is Me: A Reckoning’. A private celebration of life was scheduled for late September in Malibu, California, to honor her environmental advocacy. The service was expected to host approximately 150 guests, including her father, Skip Panettiere, though reports indicated that her mother, Lesley Vogel, and her partner, Brian Hickerson, were excluded from the guest list due to personal tensions.
