Australian professional golfer Jessica Bang, an 18-year-old rising talent known as ‘Rookie Bang’, has died in a Bangkok hospital following a brain hemorrhage. Bang collapsed on August 1 while in Thailand preparing for the KLPGA Tour’s International Qualifying Tournament. After being rushed to Synphaet Ramintra Hospital, she underwent emergency brain surgery and remained on life support in the intensive care unit for approximately two weeks before passing away on August 13, 2026. Having turned professional in November 2025, Bang had already achieved success on the WPGA Tour of Australasia, including a course record win at the 2026 Ford Women’s NSW Open Regional Qualifying. Born in South Korea, she had recently announced her intention to represent Australia internationally. The WPGA Tour of Australasia released a statement expressing deep sadness, describing Bang as an “outstanding young talent who made a significant impression in her short time on the tour.” Golf NSW and the broader golfing community have also expressed condolences, noting her talent and kindness both on and off the course. To assist with medical expenses and the costs of repatriating her to Australia, her family initiated a GoFundMe campaign, which raised significant funds to support her parents.
