Dutch pop singer Jerney Kaagman, known for her work with the rock band Earth & Fire, died on July 31 at the age of 79. She had been battling Parkinson's disease since 2012. Kaagman achieved international fame in the 1970s with hits such as "Memories" ‘Memories’ and "Weekend," ‘Weekend,’ the latter of which reached number one on the German charts in 1979. Following the split of Earth & Fire in 1983, she maintained a solo career and later served as a judge on the talent show Idols from 2002 to 2008. Beyond performing, she held significant leadership roles in the music industry, including serving as chairman of BV Pop and director of Buma Cultuur, where she advocated for musicians' rights. In 2009, she was knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
