Dutch writer, comedian, and television presenter Paulien Cornelisse died at the age of 50 on Wednesday, September 30, at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital in Amsterdam. Her death followed a battle with cancer, a health struggle she had been open about since her initial diagnosis in 2021. Cornelisse was a prominent figure in Dutch culture, recognized for her observations on language and human behavior. Her notable works include the bestseller ‘Taal is zeg maar echt mijn ding’ and the novel ‘De verwarde cavia’. Her career included roles as a columnist for NRC and De Volkskrant, as well as serving as a jury member on the quiz show ‘De slimste mens’. Following her passing, it was noted that during the 2020 Gelders Erfgoed Festival, Cornelisse had hidden a golden cherry pit within the Regional Archive Rivierenland in Tiel, which remains undiscovered. In the wake of her death, Cornelisse has achieved a record on the CPNB Bestseller 60 list. For week 41 of 2026, seven of her books re-entered the charts, marking a first in the history of the list. Her book ‘In het kort’ reached number 9.
