Death of Emir of Gumel and Succession of Lawan Ahmed ~~Muhammad Sani II~~

Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, the Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, ~~has~~ died in Egypt while receiving medical treatment. He was approximately 83 to 85 years old. Sani II was a long-serving traditional ruler who ascended the throne in December 1980. His reign lasted approximately 45 to 46 years. Before his time as Emir, he held various roles in public administration, including serving as a commissioner in the old Kano State, where he was involved in establishing the Triumph Publishing Company and the Kano State Television Corporation. Following his death in Cairo, he was buried in Gumel on Friday, September 4. On September 5, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel. The appointment followed recommendations from the Gumel Emirate Council kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs. Dr. Lawan, who previously held the traditional title of Chiroman Gumel and served as the Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), succeeds his father. The selection process involved nine aspirants and was led by the Wazirin Gumel, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Nasoro.
