Guruh Soekarnoputra, the youngest son of Indonesia’s first president Soekarno and Fatmawati, passed away on September 26, 2026, at the age of 73. He died at 04:16 WIB at MRCCC Siloam Hospitals Semanggi in Jakarta. A renowned musical maestro, painter, and politician, Soekarnoputra was a member of the PDI Perjuangan party and served in the Indonesian House of Representatives. He is credited with composing the PDI Perjuangan anthem and founded Swara Mahardika and GSP Production. His musical legacy includes the legendary Guruh Gipsy project, which blended Balinese gamelan and traditional Indonesian elements with progressive rock. Following his death, the PDI Perjuangan party ordered flags to be flown at half-mast for seven days. During his funeral at Karet Bivak Public Cemetery, his body was wrapped in his final ihram clothing from his last Umrah pilgrimage and covered with two batik cloths that belonged to his mother, Fatmawati. The service was attended by family members, including his sister, Megawati Soekarnoputri, the fifth President of Indonesia, and various national figures. On the night of September 28, President Prabowo Subianto visited the residence of Megawati Soekarnoputri to offer condolences. He was accompanied by Deputy Speaker of the House Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. PDI Perjuangan officials, including Said Abdullah and Puan Maharani, noted that the meeting was personal and focused on mourning rather than political discussion, describing the atmosphere as “warm and familial” to maintain personal ties between the leaders.
