On August 9, 2026, a motor vehicle accident in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, resulted in the deaths of prominent Maskandi musician Scebi Dlamini, known as ‘Inkosi Yamagcokama’, and backing vocalist Sipho ‘Gumu Gupta’ Mchunu. The collision occurred at an intersection on the John Ross Highway while the musicians were traveling to perform at the Basadi Let’s Dance Festival. Following the accident, funeral services were organized in the uMsinga region. Sipho Mchunu was laid to rest on August 14 at his family homestead in Embangweni. A large-scale public service for Scebi Dlamini was held at Mzisho Stadium to accommodate thousands of mourners from provinces including the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and the Free State. Additionally, Dlamini’s brother, Nduduzo Dlamini, stated that the musician had experienced a vivid dream regarding his own death and funeral arrangements months before the accident.
