Bradford Hobbs joined Motown in 1958 as the label’s first receptionist before transitioning into a prolific creative and executive career. She is credited with co-writing the label’s first major hit, ‘Money (That’s What I Want),’ alongside founder Berry Gordy. During her 25-year tenure, she contributed to hits for artists such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and The Supremes. She also served as the head of Writer Relations for Motown’s publishing company, Jobete.
Berry Gordy honored her legacy, describing her as an essential member of the ‘Original Motown Family’ who was present from the company’s inception.
