Spanish multidisciplinary artist Víctor Coyote, also known as Víctor Aparicio Abundancia, died at approximately 68 years of age following a bicycle accident in Segovia. Coyote was a prominent figure in the Madrid Movida scene and the founder of the band Los Coyotes. His career spanned music, graphic design, comic book illustration, and audiovisual direction. He was noted for blending rock and punk with Latin American rhythms, often navigating between high art and popular culture. Colleagues and friends have described him as an artist who “refused to be pigeonholed,” moving fluidly between punk, electronic music, and various other disciplines. While much of the Spanish music scene in the early 1980s looked toward London, Coyote distinguished himself by incorporating Latin influences into pop music at a time when such sounds were often dismissed by the mainstream. Reports indicate he was found lifeless on a road in Segovia on August 13, after having traveled to the region to observe a solar eclipse on August 12. Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident. His death has prompted tributes from the cultural community and his birthplace, Tui.
