In August 2026, the flamenco community experienced the loss of two significant figures. First, Francisco Páez Moreno, known professionally as Paquito de La Isla, died at age 69. A prominent singer from San Fernando, he was recognized for his connection to the ‘cante isleño’ and his association with the generation of artists surrounding Camarón de la Isla. Shortly after, influential music producer, arranger, and composer Ricardo Pachón passed away in Seville at the age of 89. Pachón was a pioneer of the ‘nuevo flamenco’ movement and produced landmark works such as Camarón de la Isla’s 1979 album, ‘La Leyenda del Tiempo’. His career included leadership roles at the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco and contributions to RTVE. His extensive discography featured collaborations with artists including Lole y Manuel, Veneno, Pata Negra, Tomatito, and Rocío Jurado. Pachón was noted for his heterodox approach and his ability to bridge traditional flamenco with other genres, such as Andalusian rock. Andalusian President Juanma Moreno described him as a producer who ‘revolutionized flamenco and left an indelible mark on musical history.’
