Debian software security and maintenance updates
Overview
The Debian Project has issued several maintenance and security updates for its stable distributions.
In mid-August, updates were released for the Trixie and Bookworm distributions. These addressed vulnerabilities in python-httplib2, unzip, zip, and util-linux. The Bookworm oldstable distribution received its final point release, Debian 12.15, which included critical updates to fwupd to manage UEFI Secure Boot CA expiration and a reversion of the geoip-database to maintain compliance with Debian Free Software Guidelines.
By mid-September, the project released Debian 13.7 for the Trixie series. This update included 107 security updates and 106 bug fixes, notably upgrading the Kernel ABI to version 6.12.107. The release addressed vulnerabilities in QEMU, ImageMagick, wolfssl, mbedTLS, and the GNU C Library (glibc). The glibc updates required rebuilding approximately two dozen core packages, including bash and gnupg2, to address buffer overflow and underflow vulnerabilities.
