DeFi security incidents on Base network
Overview
The Base network has experienced multiple decentralized finance (DeFi) security incidents involving significant asset losses.
In early October, an unnamed DeFi vault suffered an exploit resulting in a loss of over $6 million. The attacker reportedly gained access by adding a new contract to the vault’s whitelist to borrow aBaswstETH and transfer tokens to a controlled address. Security firms estimated the loss at approximately 1,783 wstETH, though no evidence suggested breaches of Aave or Base core systems.
Later in the month, a separate incident was flagged involving a loss of $721,140. While the specific protocol and exploit vector remained unconfirmed, some signals suggested a potential connection to a Cysic cross-chain bridge event.
