Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has introduced a series of infrastructure, environmental, and social welfare initiatives. Initial efforts focused on modernization and pollution control, including the inauguration of an Automated Testing Station in Burari for vehicle fitness and the upcoming opening of the Barapullah Phase-III Elevated Road. To combat air pollution, the government announced that fuel stations would soon require valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) for all transactions. Subsequent announcements expanded the scope to include sanitation and social welfare. The government allocated funds for various cleaning machines, including electric vehicle-based road sweepers, and partnered with IIT Delhi for real-time air quality monitoring. Social programs were also highlighted, such as the ‘Lakhpati Betiyan’ scheme to fund education for girls and the introduction of health monitoring packages for newborns. Building on these sanitation efforts, the government has integrated with the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ cleanliness campaign. Chief Minister Gupta launched the ‘Main Bhi Yamuna Prahari’ mobile app, designed to enlist youth volunteers for the conservation and cleaning of the Yamuna river. As part of this initiative, thousands of students from 30 Delhi University colleges are scheduled to take a cleanliness pledge on October 18. To further support sanitation workers, the Delhi government is providing funds to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the procurement of 1,000 litter-picking machines and additional mechanical sweeping machines.
