The Delhi government has approved the Lakshmi Yojana, a welfare scheme that provides a monthly cash assistance of ₹2,500 to eligible women in the National Capital Territory. The programme, announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as a key election promise for the 2025 assembly polls, opened its online application portal on 1 August, with the first payment scheduled for Raksha Bandhan on 28 August. Eligibility is limited to women aged 21‑60 who have resided in Delhi for at least ten years and whose family annual income does not exceed ₹2.5 lakh. Only one woman per family may receive the ~~benefit, and applicants~~ benefit; when multiple eligible women exist, the eldest is selected. Applicants must have no criminal ~~record. Recipients of~~ record, must not receive other government pensions or ~~other~~ regular ~~assistance~~ assistance, and families owning a four‑wheeler are also excluded. Recipients of existing pension schemes are barred. Originally introduced as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, the scheme was renamed Delhi Lakshmi Yojana and is presented as a fulfillment of the BJP‑led administration’s election promise. Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the scheme aims to strengthen women’s economic independence and help with household expenses, medicines and daughters’ education.
