In late July 2026, the Delta State Police Command launched a series of coordinated raids across the state, targeting drug trafficking, illegal firearms, and unauthorized roadblocks. Operations in Asaba resulted in the arrest of 81 people and the seizure of drugs, pistols, ammunition and other contraband, while a separate highway patrol stop seized additional weapons and drugs, bringing the total number of detainees to 83. A week later, police continued the crackdown by foiling a kidnapping plot aimed at a pastor and a retired school principal in Ughelli. The operation led to the arrest of a suspect involved in recruiting accomplices and the recovery of a single‑barrel gun and live cartridges. A concurrent stop‑and‑search in Effurun uncovered more locally made firearms, ammunition and assorted items, resulting in another arrest. Both incidents reflect an intensified police effort to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, drug trafficking and related violent crime in Delta State. On August 8, 2026, the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) conducted an intelligence-led raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area. The operation resulted in the arrest of 56-year-old Lucky Oyiboka and the recovery of 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. Police Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi stated that the command remains committed to intelligence-led policing to dismantle criminal networks and curb drug proliferation in the state. On August 13, 2026, the Operation Delta Shield patrol unit conducted a stop-and-search along Nnebisi Road in Asaba, arresting two suspected narcotics dealers, Hillary Osondu and Abubakar Bello, and seizing 132 sachets of 100mg tramadol. On the same day, a coordinated effort between ‘A’ Division detectives and the Dragon Patrol Team led to the recovery of a stolen 2003 Toyota Corolla in Ughelli, which had been reported stolen from Warri.
