Carmelo Pace was elected National Secretary of the Democrazia Cristiana during a National Council meeting in Rome. Pace expressed a desire to move past internal divisions and strengthen the party’s identity to prepare for upcoming elections. However, a leadership dispute has since emerged between Pace and acting national secretary Gianpiero Samorì. Samorì has challenged the legitimacy of Pace’s leadership, labeling the decisions issued following the national meeting as “legally non-existent, null, and illegitimate.” Samorì contends that the National Council’s resolution to appoint Pace is void. In response to the rift, Samorì announced the convening of regional congresses to elect delegates for a National Congress scheduled for October 24–25, 2026, in Rome. This follows a decision by the National Directorate to undergo internal reorganization, which included the removal of certain regional commissioners. The dispute concluded with the XXI National Congress in Rome, where Gianpiero Samorì was elected as the new National Secretary. The congress focused on relaunching the party’s identity and strengthening its national and local structures. The new leadership includes National Vice Secretaries Anna Maria Aiello and Giuseppe (Pippo) Enea as National Vice Secretary Vicario, alongside several other key organizational appointments.
