In late October 2026, planned demonstrations in Indonesia led to various traffic management measures and civil unrest in major cities. In Jakarta, authorities prepared traffic diversions and alternative routes on October 20 to accommodate protests marking the second anniversary of the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. On October 28-29, mass demonstrations involving student groups, such as the University of Indonesia's Student Executive Body (BEM UI), Trisakti University, and the Komite Selamatkan Daulat Rakyat (SADAR), took place across several key locations including Monas, Bundaran HI, Tugu Tani, and the DPR/MPR building. Protesters demanded economic and political recovery, the eradication of official incompetence, the upholding of civilian supremacy, and the release of detained activists. They also called for a national emergency declaration to combat devastating wildfires, which Nusantara Atlas reports have destroyed over 1.9 million hectares of land. Clashes were reported at Bundaran HI as demonstrators attempted to breach security barricades formed by Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel. Tensions also rose near Plaza UOB when a man suspected of being an intelligence officer was surrounded by the crowd. In Yogyakarta, the Aliansi Jogja Memanggil group held protests at the Governor's Office regarding minimum wages, corruption, and forest fires. The situation in Yogyakarta escalated into clashes in the Malioboro area and near the DIY Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) building, where unidentified groups reportedly threw firecrackers and stones at police, resulting in injuries to officers. In Bandung, students gathered at the West Java DPRD building to demand that the administration fulfill promises regarding social welfare and legal supremacy. To manage disruptions, security forces were heavily deployed. In Jakarta, Polda Metro Jaya and Dishub DKI deployed over 1,700 personnel to regulate traffic and secure sites, while authorities implemented checkpoints at ferry terminals in the Thousand Islands. While Transjakarta, MRT, and LRT services remained operational with situational adjustments, 20 Transjakarta routes were affected.
