Efforts to address depopulation in the Valencian Community have progressed from cultural initiatives to significant financial investments. The Generalitat Valenciana initially completed its Intergenerational Identity Program, which sought to combat demographic challenges by connecting elderly residents with younger generations to preserve local history and traditions. Following this, the Provincial Council of Castellón announced an allocation of 2.34 million euros to support 91 municipalities. This funding, part of the ‘Més que mai’ plan, matches funds from the Generalitat Valenciana to create a total provincial fund of nearly 4.7 million euros. The investment is designed to improve public services and encourage population stability in areas characterized by low density and aging demographics. Building on these efforts, the Diputación de Castellón has approved a broader series of measures totaling more than 40 million euros for various municipal needs. This includes the previously mentioned 2.34 million euros specifically dedicated to combating depopulation in 91 municipalities. Other approved initiatives include the ‘Més Esport’ plan, which allocates 12.11 million euros for the construction and improvement of sports facilities across 135 municipalities, and the ‘Bono DipuComerç’ initiative, which has a budget of approximately 2 million euros for 2027 to stimulate local commerce and support small businesses. Additionally, the President of the Diputación, Marta Barrachina, and the Rector of Universitat Jaume I, Jesús Lancis, have reaffirmed their collaboration to strengthen education, research, and innovation to support the local economic fabric.
