British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on August 27, 2026. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that while Yiannopoulos entered the U.S. legally in May 2019, he had overstayed his visa. An immigration judge had issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for a scheduled hearing. Following his detention and custody in Alexandria, Louisiana, Yiannopoulos was deported to the United Kingdom on August 28. In interviews, including one with Piers Morgan, Yiannopoulos described his detention as “physically degrading,” “frightening,” and “institutionalized” brutality. He claimed he was “swarmed” by approximately 15 agents, placed in “manacles and chains,” and denied food for a day. He also alleged procedural irregularities, such as legal notices being sent to outdated addresses, which he suggested was a coordinated effort to prevent him from contesting his removal. Following his return to the UK, Yiannopoulos expressed that he is “very ashamed” of his past support for the Trump administration, characterizing his previous advocacy for aggressive immigration enforcement as “mean-spirited, exaggerated jokes.” Additionally, he addressed his personal life, acknowledging that he remains gay and is still married to his husband, despite years of publicly identifying as “ex-gay” and promoting conversion therapy. His deportation has caused friction within the MAGA movement, with activist Laura Loomer claiming she reported him to authorities due to threatening messages. Additionally, rapper Kanye West is cutting ties with Yiannopoulos, who had acted as a self-appointed publicist and former chief of staff. While reports suggest West has asked Yiannopoulos to vacate a property and is reviewing his previous work for legal compliance, Yiannopoulos claims he has returned to work managing West’s legal team remotely.
