Technology companies and researchers are advancing hardware and systems designed to integrate personal AI assistants into daily life, with an increasing emphasis on on-device processing and user privacy. At the Snapdragon Summit 2026, Memories.ai introduced Luci, an AI assistant intended to provide a continuous memory system across smartphones, PCs, and smart glasses. To maintain privacy and efficiency, Luci is designed to process data directly on-device using Snapdragon processors. Concurrently, Meta unveiled the Muse Charm, a keychain-sized wearable that allows users to interact with the Muse AI assistant via voice and a small display. Further developments in localized intelligence include Panda, a personal AI computer for home use that aims to provide capabilities such as coding and research without relying on external data centers. Recent research has expanded the scope of AI alignment and local performance. Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), in collaboration with Microsoft Research Asia, developed Neural Value Alignment (NVA). This brain-computer interface technique uses electroencephalography (EEG) to detect brainwave responses when a user perceives an AI is pursuing the wrong goal, allowing the system to recognize unspoken dissatisfaction and correct behavior in real time. In the private hardware sector, Conway Research has secured funding to develop Underdog, a private AI assistant designed to run entirely on personal hardware like iPhones and Macs. Utilizing custom inference engines optimized for Apple Silicon, the company claims performance speeds up to 4.5 times faster than Apple’s MLX framework. The Underdog lineup includes the small-scale Woof model and the larger Underdog 27B, which aims to compete with frontier models while maintaining local privacy and agentic capabilities. Building on these developments, Thiel Fellow Sigil Wen has launched the private beta for Underdog. This version executes locally on Mac and Windows platforms to avoid sending data to external servers.
