In late September 2026, a man identified as Rolando Torres Vásquez, known as “Caco de Leche” or “el Coco,” died following a reported confrontation with members of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) in Salcedo. While police reported recovering a pistol at the scene, local residents claimed the victim and those detained were unarmed when the shooting began. In early October 2026, a second fatal encounter occurred in Bonao involving DICRIM agents. Carlos Alfredo Sánchez Robles, alias ‘Chuky’, died while receiving medical treatment after a confrontation during an attempt to execute a judicial arrest warrant. Police reported that Sánchez Robles opened fire on agents, who then returned fire. Authorities stated the incident in the Fumachú sector involved a warrant related to attempted homicide and firearms violations. On October 13, 2026, a third fatal encounter was reported in Baní, Peravia province. José Miguel Medina, known as ‘Miguel Nariz’, died at the Hospital Nuestra Señora de Regla following a confrontation with agents from the Subdirección Regional Sur Central de Investigaciones (Dicrim) at a cabin. Authorities were seeking Medina in connection with several robberies in Baní and San José de Ocoa, including an October 2 break-in at a financial establishment. Police considered Medina an armed individual and were in the process of requesting an arrest warrant prior to the encounter.
