The German-Austrian crime series ‘Die Toten vom Bodensee’ has seen recent developments regarding its plot and production. The 25th installment, ‘Im Schattenreich’, features a major storyline where protagonist Commissioner Micha Oberländer, played by Matthias Koeberlin, enters a coma after being attacked with a sword. This episode introduces a surreal, dream-like world for the character to continue his investigations. Recent plot developments clarify that Oberländer’s coma follows a high-speed chase. During his absence, his colleagues, Mara Eisler and Thomas Komlatschek, investigate a connection between a murdered priest and a closed children’s home. In addition to this episode, these episodes, production company Graf Film announced the expansion of the series with three new installments titled ‘Der Wassergeist’, ‘Schützenfrau’, and ‘Hexenwerk’. Filming for these episodes began in March 2026 and was expected to conclude in mid-June 2026. While specific broadcast dates for these new films have not yet been released, the series will continue to feature investigations set around Lake Constance. Actor Matthias Koeberlin has noted that while he has no immediate plans to depart from his role, he continues to evaluate the character’s narrative potential and the physical demands of the production.
