This is particularly relevant as most cervical cancer cases are linked to persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, prompting further investigation into how antioxidants might influence cellular changes following such infections. Newer research published in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, utilizing data from the US-based NHANES survey, has provided more specific details regarding these nutritional correlations. Analyzing 1,044 women, researchers determined that those with the highest intake of antioxidants—specifically vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, selenium, and carotenoids—had approximately 56% lower odds of reporting a history of cervical cancer. This correlation remained consistent after accounting for variables such as age, income, smoking, alcohol consumption, and BMI. In addition to dietary strategies, health data from the global alliance Gavi emphasizes the importance of early HPV vaccination. The vaccine can prevent up to 90% of cervical cancers, with the greatest benefits observed when administered to adolescents aged 9 to 14 to ensure a strong immune response before potential viral exposure.
