A systematic review and meta-analysis of 143,380 adults aged 18 to 87 further detailed these findings, noting that individuals with the highest nut consumption had a 16% lower relative risk compared to those with the lowest consumption. While a 30-gram daily intake correlates with a 26% reduction, researchers observed that benefits appeared to stabilize beyond that amount. These nutritional benefits are attributed to essential components such as unsaturated fats, fiber, plant protein, magnesium, and potassium, which support vascular function and blood pressure regulation. However, researchers emphasized that hypertension is also influenced by age, genetics, weight, physical activity, and overall diet. Subsequent research published in the BMJ involving over 300,000 participants found similar benefits regarding legumes and soy. High intake of legumes was associated with a 16% lower risk of hypertension, while high soy consumption was linked to a 19% lower risk. Both studies attribute these cardiovascular benefits to nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, and fiber.
