DIF organizations in Coahuila, Mexico, have implemented various continue to implement community health and mental health initiatives. In Saltillo, the ‘Espacios DIF’ program has provided over 11,700 free services, including medical consultations, psychological orientations, and medications, specifically targeting neighborhoods with high social needs. Expanding on these efforts at the state level, DIF Coahuila has trained more than 1,800 professionals and public servants across five regions in regions—Centro, Carbonífera, Norte, Sureste, and Laguna—in Psychological First Aid and the ‘NEXO Method’. This training is part of the ‘Vive Libre Sin Drogas’ strategy, which focuses on improving the detection and response to mental health crises and substance abuse. Liliana Salinas Valdés, Honorary President of DIF Coahuila, noted that professionalizing responders is a fundamental tool to ensure vulnerable populations are correctly identified and linked to specialized care. Additionally, the DIF Saltillo mobile health unit, ‘Amor en Movimiento’, has been deployed to bring healthcare directly to neighborhoods and educational institutions. This mobile unit provides services such as audiometry, optometry, and dental care, including cleanings and extractions. The initiative also includes the distribution of glucometers and blood pressure monitors to assist residents in managing diabetes and hypertension.
