Digital crime and harassment investigations in Catamarca

Overview

Authorities in Catamarca, Argentina, are conducting multiple investigations into digital crimes and harassment involving minors. An initial police operation in the capital led to the seizure of electronic devices and the formal charging of a man in a grooming investigation. This case has prompted criticism from child rights organizations regarding digital insecurity and the need for better preventive policies.

Subsequent judicial proceedings have focused on the non-consensual distribution of intimate images and bullying involving a 17-year-old student. One investigation involves three adolescents charged with producing and distributing sexual representations of a minor, a charge currently under legal appeal. A second investigation addresses the harassment and verbal abuse the victim experienced, including incidents during a school trip. The provincial Ministry of Education and Labor has requested a report from the involved private school, which maintains it responded to the situation with speed and responsibility.
