Public administrations in Barcelona and various regions of Argentina are implementing digital transformation and artificial intelligence to improve efficiency. In Barcelona, the City Council has partnered with Atos to introduce generative artificial intelligence, automated task management, and self-service mechanisms for municipal employees. In Salta, Argentina, the government has deployed AI agents that have reportedly reduced document preparation and analysis times significantly while decreasing paper usage. Further developments in Argentina include the Human Development Secretariat implementing a digitization and georeferencing system to improve data accuracy for public policy evaluation. As of late September 2026, several administrative transitions are nearing implementation. The Ministry of Strategic Planning and Modernization, alongside the Ministry of Education, has launched a digital signature system for educational public works to ensure document traceability and reduce paper use. In the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, the Legislature is set to launch the Administrative Digital File System (EDA) on October 1, 2026, to replace physical folders with digital management. Simultaneously, in the Province of Buenos Aires, the Provincial Directorate of Legal Entities (DPPJ) will transition to mandatory digital procedures on October 1, 2026, requiring all reports regarding supervised entities to be processed exclusively through digital and remote forms. In the Buenos Aires region, new digital initiatives are also targeting economic support. The Province of Buenos Aires has passed a law to create a ‘Digital Map of Exportable Offer’ to identify companies with international trade capacity. Meanwhile, a bill in the City of Buenos Aires proposes an ‘Integral SME Platform’ to centralize administrative procedures and fiscal documentation, aiming to reduce bureaucratic costs through digital management and interoperability.
