Dinamo Zagreb began their UEFA Europa League campaign with a 1-0 victory over RSC Anderlecht at Maksimir Stadium, decided by a 96th-minute penalty from Dion Drena Beljo. Following this win, Dinamo moved to four points and prepared to host NEC Nijmegen for a third-round fixture. In their third-round encounter at Maksimir Stadium, NEC Nijmegen secured a 4-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb. The match featured multiple lead changes, beginning with NEC taking an early lead through Clement Bischoff in the 25th minute. Dinamo responded quickly, with Dion Drena Beljo scoring twice in the 33rd and 37th minutes to give the home side a 2-1 advantage. However, NEC's Bryan Linssen equalized with a header just before halftime and scored again early in the second half to put the visitors ahead 3-2. NEC sealed the win in the 80th minute when captain Tjaronn Chery scored a fourth goal, capitalizing on a defensive error by Dinamo. The defeat leaves Dinamo Zagreb in 18th place in the league phase. Following the match, Dinamo coach Mario Kovačević described the team's defensive performance as “catastrophic” and stated, “I am the main culprit.” The result has since sparked calls from fans for leadership changes within the club.
