The Diocese of Quilmes is undergoing a period of institutional transition alongside its 50th anniversary celebrations. On September 13, Bishop Carlos Tissera formally submitted his resignation to Pope Leo XIV after reaching the age of 75, as required by the Code of Canon Law. During a mass at the Basilica of Luján, Tissera addressed local economic difficulties, including unemployment and low wages. He will continue to govern the diocese until the Vatican officially accepts the resignation and appoints a successor. On September 19, the diocese marked its Golden Jubilee with marches, a central Mass, and a public festival. The celebrations honored the legacy of the first bishop, Jorge Novak, and included messages from Pope Francis and Apostolic Nuncio Michael Banach. The anniversary Mass was presided over by Bishop Tissera, with a homily delivered by Archbishop Marcelo Colombo. During the commemorative ceremony at the Quilmes Cathedral, Santiago Castagno, the municipal Secretary of Economy, presented a plaque to Tissera on behalf of Mayor Carlos Balor. The event, which included pilgrims from five regional deanates, was also attended by local authorities, including interim Quilmes Mayor Eva Mieri.
