Dirty Dancing film overview

Overview

The 1987 film ‘Dirty Dancing’ follows 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman during a 1963 summer vacation at a Catskills resort. While staying at a hotel catering primarily to retirees, Baby develops a romantic connection with Johnny Castle, a dance instructor.

After Johnny’s regular partner, Penny, becomes unable to perform in a major dance revue, Baby steps in to dance with him. Through intensive practice, she discovers a passion for dance and a deeper bond with Johnny. The relationship faces conflict when Baby’s father, a doctor, misinterprets circumstances surrounding a medical emergency involving Penny and subsequently forbids Baby from seeing Johnny.
