Disability rights advocates in Spain have organized various events to demand greater autonomy and improved public support systems. In late September, over 120 young people participated in the II State Congress of Youth with Disabilities in Valladolid. The assembly focused on the right to independent living, addressing barriers in employment, housing, and political participation. Participants specifically discussed the need for better disability awareness in human resources and the importance of representation in decision-making roles. Following this, during World Cerebral Palsy Day, associations such as ASPACE and PROI launched campaigns under the slogan ‘Cuidar sin renunciar’ (Care without giving up). These advocates are calling for a stable, specialized public care system to ensure the responsibility for care does not fall solely on families. Demands include increased funding, early intervention for minors, psychological support, and family respite services. Demonstrations and solidarity marches were held in locations including León, Ceuta, and Ciudad Real. On October 6, as part of global observations for World Cerebral Palsy Day, Spanish associations like ASPACE and PROI Ceuta continued their efforts. These campaigns emphasize the need for specialized public support systems and respite care to prevent caregivers from having to sacrifice their own lives.
