Social service organizations in Austria continue to expand disability support through employment opportunities and community inclusion initiatives. In the employment sector, recruitment for essential care roles remains active. In Vienna, Caritas is seeking a deputy manager and caregiver for the WG Maria Wald residential group, requiring de-escalation skills, as well as a caregiver for the Spundagasse residential group. To address the rising demand for nursing and care staff driven by an aging population, the Wiener Arbeitnehmer*innen Förderungsfonds (waff) provides funding for training and job placement. Between 2021 and 2025, waff supported approximately 11,000 individuals in care and social professions, utilizing financial incentives like the Vienna nursing training premium. Recent projections highlight the scale of this demographic shift, suggesting that the number of residents aged 85 and older in Vienna will grow from 42,000 in 2026 to approximately 82,000 by 2050. To mitigate these pressures, waff offers subsidies and programs such as ‘Jobs PLUS Ausbildung’ to facilitate entry into the healthcare and social sectors. It is noted that between 2021 and 2025, waff allocated approximately 72 million euros to support around 11,000 people in these training programs. Personal assistance roles continue to be a significant part of the sector. Assistenz24 is recruiting for positions in Himberg, Niederhollabrunn, and Vienna, with tasks ranging from mobility and household assistance to pet care. Additionally, Lebenshilfe Tirol is recruiting in Imst to facilitate independent living, while HABIT – Haus der Barmherzigkeit continues to hire for economic and household assistance in Vienna. Community inclusion efforts are also progressing through organized events.
