Discord has announced a plan to allow search engines to index messages from certain public communities, referred to as ‘Discoverable Servers’. These are defined as public communities with at least 1,000 members that have existed for at least eight weeks. The initiative targets approximately 63,000 ‘Discoverable Servers’ listed in Discord’s discovery directory. The rollout is scheduled in two phases. Beginning November 16, 2026, qualifying servers will receive dedicated web pages featuring AI-generated or automated summaries of active text channel discussions. By mid-December 2026, individual messages from eligible public channels may become searchable on the open web. web, appearing word-for-word in search engine results. To address privacy, Discord stated that usernames and avatars will not be displayed alongside indexed messages, and private servers, direct messages, and group chats are excluded. The company noted that messages sent prior to the mid-December rollout will not be affected. While Discord aims to make community-generated knowledge, such as technical troubleshooting and gaming guides, more accessible, the move has raised privacy concerns. Users can opt out via ‘Data & Privacy’ settings, and server administrators can manage channel visibility through ‘Web Presence’ settings. Due to local data protection laws, the feature will be disabled by default for minors and users in the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea.
