Authorities in Larissa, Greece, discovered the mummified body of a 60-year-old woman in a basement apartment in the Agios Konstantinos neighborhood on August 19. The discovery occurred following the sale of the property, property on 28th October Street, which prompted police to open the closed unit. Forensic examinations indicate the woman died of pathological causes at least one year ago. Due to specific environmental conditions within the basement, the body underwent mummification rather than typical decomposition. This rare phenomenon, described as being recorded for the first time in local forensic history, prevented the release of strong odors that might have alerted neighbors to her death. Based on an identity card found near the body, the woman was originally from Thessaloniki and had lived in another European country before settling in Larissa. Investigators have collected DNA samples and sent them to the Forensic Research Directorate of Criminological Research of the Hellenic Police for official identification. Efforts to locate her relatives are ongoing.
