On July 30, 2026, the Central Control Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) voted to remove Nguyên Quang Thiêu from all Party positions. The commission cited serious breaches of Party regulations and state law, including “ideological and moral decline,” failure to enforce anti-corruption and anti-waste rules, and actions that harmed the Party’s prestige. The decision also criticized the Vietnam Writers' Association’s publishing house and the Bac Ninh provincial Party committee for oversight failures. Following the CPV ruling, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Writers' Association voted on August 24 to dismiss Nguyễn Quang Thiều from his term as Chairman. Chairman (2020-2025). While the dismissal follows the July 30 ruling regarding leadership and supervision failures within the Association's Party Committee, some reports noted that specific reasons for the board's decision were not publicly disclosed at the time of the announcement. Vice Chairman Nguyễn Bình Phương has been assigned to manage the Association’s operations temporarily until a new Chairman is appointed, with a representative congress appointed. This interim arrangement is expected to remain in place as the Association prepares for its next representative congress, scheduled for late September 2026.
