Disney is advancing construction for the ‘Monstropolis’ land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is scheduled to debut in 2027. The expansion will replace the former Grand Avenue area and recreate the setting from the Pixar ‘Monsters, Inc.’ franchise. Recent progress includes the staging of tracks for a new suspended roller coaster based on the film’s door vault chase. This attraction is expected to be Disney’s first suspended coaster, featuring ride vehicles that hang beneath the track. Other developments include the conversion of the former Rizzo’s Pizzeria into ‘Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza’ and the transformation of the Muppet*Vision 3D theater into ‘The Glob’ theater to host ‘Welcome to Monstropolis’. New permit filings indicate further expansion of the land’s dining options, including a new table-service restaurant, ‘Harryhausen’s’, which is set to replace Mama Melrose’s. Simultaneously, extensive refurbishment work is underway on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Construction on the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade has progressed, with scaffolding covering portions of the 199-foot structure. New thematic elements are being added to the building, such as bright purple lightning strike marks on the pink facade to align with the attraction’s backstory. Speculation regarding updates to the 32-year-old ride has increased following a visit to Walt Disney Imagineering by Mark Silverman, the voice actor who recreates Rod Serling’s narration. Silverman’s suggestion that new voice work ‘could be’ in development has fueled rumors of further changes to the attraction. Additional maintenance is currently being conducted at the park, including the draining of Echo Lake to facilitate repairs to the basin and surrounding structures, such as the S.S. Down the Hatch. During this process, the landmark dinosaur Gertie has been repainted.
