Uruguayan football has faced recent disruptions involving violence and safety incidents. In July, the national football federation suspended all competitions across every category following a violent incident during a second-division match between Rentistas and Cerrito, which left a player seriously injured. Following this suspension, a separate incident occurred during a second-division match between Uruguay Montevideo and Paysandú at Parque ANCAP stadium. During the game, a ball cleared by player Richard Núñez flew over the stadium fence and onto the adjacent Ruta 1 highway. This caused a driver to brake abruptly, resulting in a rear-end collision between two vehicles. While the accident caused a traffic jam of approximately 15 to 20 minutes and required police intervention, no injuries were reported. The match continued without interruption, with Uruguay Montevideo securing a 1-0 victory. victory via a goal by Lucas Rodríguez.
