In Diyarbakır, the 2026-2027 academic year has commenced amid efforts to address educational infrastructure needs following previous earthquakes. Specific challenges have emerged at Vali Aydın Arslan Fen Lisesi in the Sur district, where 490 students were relocated to a building in Kayapınar to allow for structural reinforcement. Parents have reported significant deficiencies at the new site, including a lack of laboratories, libraries, dining halls, and smart boards. They have also cited administrative instability, noting the school has had three different principals in three years. On a provincial scale, authorities have invested approximately 290 million lira in maintenance and repairs for roughly 200 schools. Additionally, 29 new schools were opened, and infrastructure is being expanded in the earthquake-affected Oğlaklı region, where four new schools are currently under construction. To support disadvantaged students, various youth academies are providing free exam preparation and educational support. Nationally, the Ministry of National Education has established the teacher preparation allowance at 8,665.32 TL, with payments commencing on September 1, 2026. The official academic calendar for the year includes a mid-term break from November 16 to November 20, 2026, a semester break starting January 25, 2027, and a final conclusion on June 25, 2027. In Sarıkamış, the municipality is providing free school shuttle services four times a day to assist families with student transportation.
