Diyarbakır healthcare infrastructure and operational issues

Healthcare infrastructure in Diyarbakır has come under scrutiny due to concerns over facility relocation and operational failures.

Initial reports focused on the potential relocation of medical facilities in the Fiskaya district, including Selahattin Eyyubi Hospital, to a new city hospital in Talaytepe. Local observers expressed concerns that moving these services could cause significant traffic congestion and suggested that the existing Selahattin Eyyubi Hospital be repurposed as a specialized chest disease center instead.

Subsequent reports highlighted immediate operational crises. At Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital, officials called for data regarding pediatric emergency workloads, specifically addressing reports of insufficient staffing during high patient volumes. Meanwhile, Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital reportedly faced structural issues when heavy rainfall caused flooding in operating rooms, leading to the cancellation of surgeries for at least two days. These infrastructure and maintenance concerns were formally brought to the attention of the Turkish Minister of Health by DEM Party Deputy Serhat Eren.
