Brazil continues to report various incidents of domestic violence and physical assault across multiple municipalities. Arrests have been made in cases involving threats, physical strikes, and arson against partners, children, and elderly relatives. Recent reports indicate a surge in incidents, with arrests occurring in Apiúna, Águas Lindas, Maravilha, Salgado, and Novo Progresso. In some instances, aggressors have resisted police intervention with weapons, necessitating the use of non-lethal force. In response, local governments and legislative bodies have expanded prevention and educational initiatives. Following reports of over 9,800 occurrences in the first half of 2026, the Legislative Assembly in Rio Grande do Norte launched a campaign specifically targeting men to combat domestic violence. Other regional efforts include health and prevention events for women in Marituba and large-scale participation in awareness programs in Mauá, where the Secretariat of Public Policies for Women has reached over 60,000 people. Additionally, the Court of Accounts in Mato Grosso has noted municipal successes in integrating violence prevention into school curricula. Complementing these social efforts, specialized training and corporate support have been implemented, such as self-defense courses in Cocal do Sul and the Florescer Program by Rede Santa Catarina. In Araraquara, the City Council approved the ‘Selo Empresa Parceira da Mulher’ (Women's Partner Company Seal), a voluntary recognition for businesses that implement continuous actions to promote gender equality and support victims of violence. Regarding broader crime trends, statistics from Rio de Janeiro for the first nine months of 2026 indicate a 6.9% decrease in violent lethality and a 19.5% drop in street robberies, although vehicle thefts have experienced a slight increase. Amidst these trends, the São Paulo Police Ombudsman has called for a review of approach protocols following several deaths during police interventions. Recent police reports highlight severe cases of abuse across several states.
