In September 2026, a 45-year-old man was arrested in Nea Smyrni after threatening a former partner and attempting to enter her apartment building. Police discovered the man hiding near the premises and seized a revolver loaded with six cartridges, plus an additional 11 cartridges. The individual faced charges involving domestic violence, weapons violations, and immigration laws. By October 2026, a separate but related incident of domestic violence occurred in Lavrio. A 32-year-old Romanian national allegedly broke into a residence using a sledgehammer, a crowbar, and a ladder to reach a first-floor balcony. Once inside, the attacker reportedly used a knife to strike his former partner and her 33-year-old partner. The woman sustained serious injuries to her lungs, back, and limbs and was transferred to Evangelismos Hospital, while the man remained in critical condition at Asklepieion Voulas Hospital. Hospital with injuries to his ribs, clavicle, and genital area. The attack took place while the couple’s two young children, aged 1.5 and 2.5 years, were sleeping in a nearby room and were not injured. Investigations into the Lavrio attack revealed a history of violence, noting the victim had filed five complaints against the suspect since November 2025 involving threats, privacy violations, and child support issues. The suspect had also been arrested in September for weapons and domestic threat charges but had been released under restrictive conditions. The suspect surrendered to the Lavrio Police Department, and the Athens Prosecutor's Office has initiated criminal proceedings for attempted murder, illegal possession of weapons, and violation of restrictive orders.
