In early August 2026, the Dominican Republic Army, led by Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, began a series of modernization efforts along the Haitian border. On 2 August, Pérez toured the provinces of El Ías Elías Piña and Independencia, inaugurating renovated posts at Guaroa, Aniceto Martínez Martínez, and Pirámide 204, and opening a new helipad at El Aguacate to improve logistical response. Two days later, on 4 August, the army formally handed over the fully refurbished Pirámide 204 post in the Sierra de Neiba National Park. The upgrade included new living quarters, kitchen, dining, sanitation, flooring, doors, windows, paint, lighting, electrical and hydraulic systems, aimed at enhancing soldiers’ conditions and border‑security border-security capabilities. On 9 August, Major General Pérez conducted a follow-up supervisory tour of border units in the Pedernales and Independencia provinces to assess operational readiness and monitor the fulfillment of security missions. During this inspection, he visited the Enriquillo Fortress, the B Company in El Banano, and the recently handed-over Cabeza de Agua detachment. Other sites inspected included the Don Juan military post, Los Arroyos, Pirámide 284, and Caseta No. 2 within the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park, as well as the El Aguacate and Puerto Escondido detachments of the 14th Infantry Battalion in Jimaní.
