The Dominican Republic is undergoing shifts in its diplomatic presence across the region. In Venezuela, the government has reopened its Consulate General in Caracas after a two-year closure, following a normalization process agreed upon in August between President Luis Abinader and the interim administration. This reopening allows for full consular services, including passport and notary functions. Conversely, the Dominican Republic has withdrawn its diplomatic mission from Nicaragua. Nicaragua, citing concerns regarding democratic freedoms and political rights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) has confirmed that consular services and assistance for Dominican citizens residing in Nicaragua will now be managed through diplomatic missions in Costa Rica and Honduras. In Costa Rica, services are available through the Consular Section of the Embassy in San José, while in Honduras, assistance is provided via the Consulate General in San Pedro Sula. Additionally, MIREX has implemented a temporary suspension of judicial notifications and other legal proceedings directed at individuals or entities domiciled in Nicaragua, citing ‘force majeure’ resulting from the diplomatic withdrawal. These legal services will remain suspended until conditions allow for restoration, and the designated offices in Costa Rica and Honduras will not perform these specific duties within Nicaraguan territory.
