The Dominican Republic is working toward establishing itself as a major global gastronomic destination. During the XX Congress of the Dominican Chapter of the Pan American Conference of Hotels, Gastronomy and Tourism, entrepreneur Luis Marino López proposed transitioning from traditional tourism to a solid national gastronomic brand by leveraging ancestral recipes and diverse products. Following these strategic goals, the country has utilized initiatives like Gastronomy Month and SDQ Gastronomic and Restaurant Week to promote local culinary diversity. Building on this international projection, the third edition of RD Exquisita 2027 is scheduled for January 16 to 19. Co-organized by Foro DoMadrid and sponsored by Banco Agrícola de la República Dominicana, the festival will expand its circuit beyond Madrid to include Salamanca, Spain. Operating under the theme ‘Sabor que impulsa turismo, cultura y comercio’, the event aims to leverage the Castilla y León region’s agri-food distribution networks to create commercial channels for Dominican producers of cocoa, coffee, and tropical fruits. Recent developments indicate a broader push for international commercial ties. In addition to the RD Exquisita expansion, the Dominican Week in France (SD26) is set to take place in Paris from October 17 to 22, 2026, coinciding with the SIAL Paris food fair. This event is expected to focus on investment, renewable energy, and digital technology to strengthen bilateral commercial relations. Furthering this international economic presence, the country secured approximately US$600 million in tourism investment agreements at the IFTM Top Resa 2026 fair in Paris. This expansion includes improved air connectivity with Europe, specifically through ITA Airways launching a direct route between Rome and Santo Domingo, and Air France increasing its frequency between Paris and Punta Cana.
