Dominican Republic hosting 2026 World Police Games
Overview
The Dominican Republic is hosting the IV World Police Games from October 26 to 30, 2026. Organized by the International Police Sports Union (USIP), the event is being held in Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, and Punta Cana.
President Luis Abinader officially inaugurated the games in Santo Domingo, marking the first time the Caribbean has hosted this international competition. The opening ceremony took place at the Volleyball Palace of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful and National Police Director Major General Ernesto Rafael Rodríguez García noted that the games aim to foster international cooperation and the exchange of experiences between global law enforcement agencies.
More than 600 police officers from 32 countries across America, Europe, Asia, and Africa are participating. The athletic program includes seven disciplines: 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, swimming, golf, a 10-kilometer run, IPSC practical shooting, and judo.
Prior to the opening, the Dominican National Police conducted a national torch relay to promote the event and foster community engagement. As the games commenced, international delegations and USIP leadership had already begun arriving via Punta Cana and Santo Domingo airports.
