Authorities in the Dominican Republic have conducted extensive operations to combat the illicit trade of fuel and regulated merchandise. In the first seven months of 2026, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM) and the Specialized Fuel Control Corps (CECCOM) reported the seizure of approximately 213,355 gallons of fuel and 46 million units of regulated items, including alcohol, cigarettes, medicines, and sexual stimulants. Recent enforcement actions have targeted specific commercial and clandestine operations. In Villa Consuelo, a raid on a business owned by Chinese nationals resulted in the seizure of 119,708 units of illicit goods valued at approximately 19.4 million Dominican pesos. In late August, enforcement expanded to include the dismantling of a clandestine gas station in María Trinidad Sánchez and the interception of 1.8 million Capital brand cigarettes in Villa Altagracia. In San Cristóbal, authorities dismantled a significant network in the Doña Aña district dedicated to manufacturing and distributing adulterated premium alcohol. A raid on a three-story building yielded 25,496 illicit items, including 4,780 bottles of liquor, pure alcohol, and counterfeit labels, valued at approximately RD$5,977,358. ~~This operation followed an April investigation into a vehicle carrying adulterated rum.~~ By early September, a joint effort between Pro Consumidor, CECCOM, and the Public Ministry dismantled what was described as one of the largest clandestine factories for the production and counterfeiting of alcoholic beverages. The facility was equipped for every stage of the illicit process, from adulteration to packaging. Eddy Alcántara, executive director of Pro Consumidor, described the operation as being of “great magnitude,” noting the products posed significant health risks. The factory is allegedly owned by Randy García, who was previously intervened in June for altering expiration dates on products. While the facility was dismantled, García was not located at the site, and intelligence agencies are continuing efforts to locate him.
