The Dominican Republic has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen its institutional frameworks for integrity and human rights. In late July 2026, the General Directorate of Ethics and Governmental Integrity (DIGEIG) expanded the National Integrity System by swearing in over 100 Government Integrity Commissions and Integrity Officers. This expansion brought the system to 213 institutions and 17 local governments. Following this, the DIGEIG launched a public consultation for the 2026–2036 National Integrity Strategy, seeking input from citizens, NGOs, and the private sector to guide an agenda focused on transparency, open government, and justice integrity. By late August 2026, the Ministry of Justice began organizing consultations to develop regulations for a National Human Rights System. This initiative seeks to create an institutional framework for coordinating human rights policies through dialogue with civil society organizations and representatives of vulnerable populations. Participants in these sessions have advocated During the first round of consultations, the Center for Research for Women's Action (CIPAF) participated, with executive director Syra Taveras advocating for a system based on international standards to bridge the gap between legal recognized rights and the lived experiences realities of citizens. Minister of Justice Antoliano Peralta Romero emphasized the importance of incorporating civil society experiences into the system's construction. Subsequently, the Ministry of Justice convened a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs involving approximately 60 representatives from various government branches and constitutional bodies. Under the ‘Build our National Human Rights System’ initiative, participants analyzed proposed regulations to improve inter-institutional articulation. Minister Peralta Romero noted that integrating different state institutions is essential for the system's effective implementation.
